Cobra is 'Helter Skelter'

Cobra is Helter Skelter

On his new album, which will be officially launched this month, deejay Mad Cobra is literally the 21-track sets title.

starright_1_pqwmacobrabam.jpgIt is named Helter Skelter, the persona he adapts for the songs.

Helter Skelter is a very rough, street album, Cobra said. Only three of the 21 tracks have come out as singles, namely Gangster Flex, One Lip to a Spliff and Galang So, done with Vegas.

Cobras talent

The album has, in effect, been finished for sometime. However, in terms of being released it has been somewhat of a victim of Cobras talent, as he says I get new ideas and I write almost everyday. He decided to bring closure to the project when he wrote a song for the hot Kung Fu rhythm, making it the final entry on the set.

It will be coming out on Cobras own DJR label (named after his three children, Devante, Jordan and Rujuan). To support the set, Cobra will be travelling through Jamaica from Negril to Portland, doing not only performances but also autograph signing and meet-and-greet sessions. Then will come the Caribbean, with stops in Antigua, Trinidad, Barbados, St Lucia and The Bahamas, followed by a trek to the US.

Musical powerhouse

Among the producers who worked on Helter Skelter are Rotigan, Yellow, Mack D and Flego, much of the work done at Walkway 21, a Portmore-based production house run by Mikey Steer. Cobra has, of course, been in Portmore long before it was known as a musical powerhouse.

Helter Skelter follows Snypa Way, which Cobra said did very well and for which he is still getting requests to supply copies.

On the upcoming album, Cobra says Devils War is a c****ination between himself and the Devil, while Me and My Crew is a c****ination with Big Beast who he is banking on to be the next big star, Bedroom Gangster is about fulfilling the womens desires, Spice chipping in on Dat a Wha She Want, also firmly on the womens street.

War is about no stepping down, One Lip To a Spliff advocates that yu mus can support yu smoking habit and Cobra says when people hear Who The Cap Fits they will know who is being addressed.

Promoting violence

When The STAR asked how he responds if Helter Skelter was seen as promoting violence, Cobra said his songs are speaking to a particular character and are not about an innocent person.

Just like the movies, Cobra said, adding that if that is the situation they need to stop the silver screen.

And hard on the heels (Cobra plans for about a gap of only five months) comes Other Side of the Coin, another full-length set. The next one is more radio friendly Cobra said, adding that it is halfway completed. He said that it will have the reality side, culture, love songs, different ballads.
