876radio.com has just received confirmation that popular entertainer and leader of the Portmore Empire, Vybz Kartel and eight other men were released just moments ago from one of the islands lock up. The deejay and members of his entourage who have been in incarceration since Wednesday were released Friday evening without any formal charges laid against them.
Even though all the detainees were released, Kartel was kept in holding until late in the afternoon, while the other men were allowed to walk free. Those released includes his bodyguard, presently on suspension from the Police Force, a popular producer and a few other close members of his inner circle.
Prior to being released Kartel while under heavy security guard was moved several times between the Gun Court and Horizon Adult facility, which proved a very teeth pulling experience for one of his lawyers. Mr. Michael Deans, the deejay's legal counsel has accused the local lawmen of disrespectful behaviour when he tried to visit his client earlier this week. However yesterday under the guidance of renown attorney-at-law, Ms.Valerie Neita-Robertson the deejay was interrogated and later released.
Kartel's arrest stems from a two part raid carried out on Wednesday by a Police, Military Joint Task Force at his recording studio and home in upper St. Andrew (separate locations). Where he and several men were picked up and taken into custody after he was allegedly named as a suspect in the recent murder of a popular figure in the crime underworld of Portmore.
Efforts by 876radio.com to reach the deejay for a comment proved futile, but sources close to the entertainer said they are elated that he has been set free.
