Recently, the Jamaica Observers Chat magazine published its Top 10 list of artistes who have not been seen in a while. Heres our list
1 Aidonia - From 2005 to 2007 he was all over the charts and stage shows. Not much from him in 2008.
2 Alley Cat - In 1995/6 he hit the charts with a couple hits; although hes booked for Sumfests Dancehall Night tonight, nothing much has been heard of him since the late 90s
3 Alozade - In 1999 he stormed the scene with Street Dreams followed by Nuh Watch Gal (a collaboration with Kiprich & Chico) in 2000. He was incarcerated in 2001 for a few months, then seemingly in the wilderness until 2006 when he teamed once again with Kiprich & Chico on the hit song Bad Out Deh; nothing since though
4 Bascom-X - In 2004, Who Do You Think Of (on the Hard Times riddim) was in constant rotation on radio and in the dancehalls; followed by a few other minor hits in 2005. An illegal gun charge in late 2007 has seemingly helped to put his career on pause.
5 Boom Dandimite - since the Scare Dem Crew disbanded, apart from an occasional guest appearance alongside Bounty or Ele at a dance, we havent seen much of him
6 Brian & Tony Gold - They hit the charts in the late 1980s with Bullseye, did background / back-up singing for numerous hit songs of the 90s and were constantly on tour with Shaggy a few years ago; but where are they now?
7 Buccaneer - From Neighbourhood in 1994 to Soco Numa in 1998 and Classical Party in 2004, Buccaneer has been on the scene for years; then he seemed to change his focus to producing and has all but disappeared from the scene as an artiste
8 Chico - From 1998 to 2000 his singles ruled, and although he has been consistently recording on new riddims over the years, hes still to find the formula that he had in the late 90s
9 Chronicle - in the name!!! was the trademark intro line for this singer whose dubplates dominated the dancehall in the mid-1990s. Where is he now??
10 Cobra- From the international hit Flex in 1992 to a flurry of hits throughout the 1990s, Mad Cobra was a deejay in demand. In recent times he has featured on the occasional new riddim but is still to find the right formula to hit the charts once again
Mega Banton, Ricky General, Lexus, Angel Dulas, Red Rat, Goofy, Terror Fabulous, Nadine Sutherland list goes on and on. What happen to dem???????????? Does anybody?????????
Nadine Sutherland is a rising star judge now, not sure how much recording she's doing...........apart from goofy and red rat dont think i have heard of the others
Some people get a flash or two of energy and creative brilliance but after that moment they find it difficult to replicate and fall entirely off the map.
Others like Bounti, Shaggy, Beenie Man, love them or hate them, have somehow been able to create the magic over and over again.
