BRADENTON, Fla. -- A high school football star from southwest Florida is charged with fatally shooting a man during a robbery. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office said Timothy Brooks, 18, is charged in the Sunday night shooting death of 19-year-old William White Jr. The sheriff's office said Brooks shot White in the neck after robbing him during a marijuana deal.
Detectives were also looking for Brooks' friend, Cody Rogers, 18, who they say ripped a necklace from the neck of the victim before he was killed. Brooks is a promising quarterback and running back for Lakewood Ranch High School. As a junior last year, he threw for 604 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing for another 631 yards and seven scores. Sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow said Brooks was arrested Monday. The teen did not talk to detectives and did not admit to the shooting. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer yet.
