Members of the public are being warned to be on the lookout for unscrupulous individuals who may try to conduct business transactions using stolen pension cheques.
The warning was raised some time last month after thieves held up and robbed employees at the Discovery Bay Post Office in St Ann. The Ministry of Labour subsequently urged business operators and individuals to be wary of encashing pension cheques.
According to police reports, a large batch of the cheques were stolen from the post office after three men, who were posing as customers, suddenly pulled guns and demanded money from the employees.
The gunmen then reportedly locked the workers in a vault before escaping with $500,000 in pension cheques.
