Anthony Gibbons, a member of the Arnett Gardens Football Club, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday to answer charges of robbery with aggravation.
The court was told that on June 25, the complainant was held up along Studio One Boulevard and robbed of his motor car and a cellular phone by three men. Two of the men escaped and Gibbons, 26, who the court was told plays for Arnett Gardens, was reportedly found with the phone in his possession.
His lawyer, however, strongly denied the allegations and told the court that the car did not belong to the complainant. He said the complainant was lent the car and some money, but was delaying returning the car. The complainant reportedly met with some men to have discussions and the car was taken. Gibbons' lawyer said the complainant then made a false report that the car had been stolen. He said the documents proving the car belonged to the complainant were fraudulent.
Gibbons was denied bail and was ordered to have his fingerprints taken.
