POLICE in East Kingston say they will be paying special attention to sections of 'Bobo Hill' or 'Rasta Hill' in Bull Bay, St Andrew where they believe several wanted men are hiding out.
According to Deputy Superintendent Michael Ellis, fugitives from the division's hotbed communities are believed to have fled to the highly-vegetated Rastafarian community in an effort to ease pressure from cops on the lowland.
"From time to time we have received reports that persons of interest might be hiding out up there," Ellis told the Observer last week.
The deputy superintendent however, stopped short of giving the identity of suspects believed to have taken up residence there.
Ellis's statement came a day after 44-year-old DJ Leon 'Trudy Ranks' Thompson was caught armed in the Rastafarian camp during a predawn raid by the lawmen who were searching for illegal guns and wanted men
The police say upon their approach of a dwelling occupied by Thompson, he fired at them and ran from the building. He was chased by the cops who found him hiding in bushes with a Colt .45 pistol, which had jammed after it failed to eject a spent casing. The weapon also had six rounds of ammunition.
Thompson is to be charged with shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, police say.
