MIAMI - A man accused of cocaine trafficking and other crimes who was extradited from Col****ia along with nine others is now awaiting arraignment in Miami.
Eugenio Montoya Sanchez appeared in federal court for the first time Tuesday. He is the brother of Diego Montoya Sanchez, who was arrested by Col****ian authorities in January 2007 and allegedly led the Norte del Valle cartel. Montoya is being temporarily detained until Monday, when he will be arraigned and have a full pretrial detention hearing.
He faces a 12-count indictment that also includes charges of obstruction of justice, witness retaliation by murder, and money laundering. It was unclear if he had an attorney.
The case will be tried before United States District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga.
