A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a teen was shot in the head.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they were called to an address in Ashover Avenue, Gorton, Manchester, shortly after 6am today following reports of a shooting.
The 16-year-old girl, who has not been named, was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
She was taken to hospital and her condition is critical.
A 19-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody.
Superintendent Simon Barraclough, of GMPs South Manchester division, said: "This would appear to be an isolated incident however there will be extra patrols in the area to reassure residents."
Police tape surrounded a large part of the West Gorton estate, including the home where the girl is thought to have lived.
She was named locally as Sophie and people said she had lived at the address for a number of years.
Neighbours said her mother had moved her out of the house some months ago.
One resident, who declined to give his name, said: "Sophies mother moved out earlier this year and I think she now lives with her cousin, a young lad.
"Shes a pleasant girl, always coming and going from the house.
"I never heard any sound of a gun this morning. The first I knew was when I opened my curtains, I saw a police officer go into the house with a camera.
"I thought somebody had been stabbed, you read about it a lot these days."
