From 'Warlord' to 'Grung God' Killer says he is less aggressive

The following is part two of a three-part interview with Bounty Killer. The final part promises to be fiery and will appear in The Weekend Star.

These and other types of deadly lyrical content were typical of what Bounty Killer, the warlord, represented back in his heyday. However, Bounty, who has recently taken on a new moniker, that of 'Grung god', says it represents a Bounty who is a lot more mature and less aggressive.

"It takes a whole lot now," he says, to get him cross, angry and miserable.

"Alright, for instance, di Monsta Sprat ting, yuh know how long it tek me to respond? Because it take a lot more to get on ma nerve these days. Back in the days, CéCile jus sey, (singing), 'Bounty Killer too stiff ...' (then he goes off into his typical Bounty Killer voice with attitude) ... ey wey dah gyal ... ey ga' yoow! Look wah di woman sey, yuh nuh. If somebody sey dat now, wey yuh tink mi woulda do? A laugh mi woulda laugh wid CéCile," Bounty said.

"Yout, 1998, when CéCile do dat, 10 years ago mi furious, ask ... yow ... if she neva a girl mi rush dat pon stage. Yuh understand, an mi an CéCile a big fren now, yuh memba til all people a sey CéCile a breed fi mi ... "

Come from far

But Bounty says, "wi grow an come a far way an mi like it. An wi wasn't acting like dat for no special reason, a jus suh wi did stay. Wi did too 'touchy touchy' an too thin skin an hot headed ... the more calmer yuh be, a di more yuh can think an a di best response yuh can gi. When yuh act ignorant, most time yuh regret it, ca' yuh might do something wey yuh neva waan do. Suh is jus more experience, an more success an maturity jus build up all a dat calm inna yuh an di people lovin it."

Bounty says, "For instance, all who love ignorant Bounty, have a ignorant Bounty side wey dem can reminisce pon ova di years, an all di people whe did wish Killer be a calmer person, enjoying it an having fun wid it now. 'Cause those are the people whe use to cuss bout Bounty too ignorant, him ray ray ray, suh a uno time now people, Bounty calm now, alright, enjoy yuh calm Bounty, ca' uno cyan tek di miserable one."

More Parties

But not only is Bounty less cross, angry and miserable, but he is also showing a much lighter side to his fans, he is now partying more and interacting with them.

"I think since I start to party, di people dem get fi understand Killer likkle more, because my partying is interacting wid di people, because when mi deh a stage show, mi nuh interact, is jus a mind ting. Is like mi too focus when mi deh a stage show suh mi nuh waan hear nutt'n. When mi deh a party, I'm a loose canon, I'm just here like anybody, suh people get fi meet mi now an talk to mi an dem sey how him a laugh, look how him a Gully Creep an a Killa Swing ... nuff people neva believe sey mi can do dem likkle ting deh, 'cause when mi deh a stage show, mi jus na' do it.

Dem (fans) nuh get fi si mi as much, an when dem do a si mi is a screw face dem get 'cause di smiling face nuh deh a road. But now, wi deh a road nuff, suh dem si di smiling face sometime, suh Killer a guh smile man. It's all good."

Unapproachable

Also, contrary to the popular belief that Killer is a very unapproachable person, Bounty says his real fans would have no problem because they know just how to approach him.

"Di people dem get fi learn sey mi is a nice bredda yuh nuh, but me is a no-nonsense man, yuh understand ... but is not like wi don't have fun an wi don't have certain courtesy, but is just no ..., yuh haffi come straight, an not, no lean, don't jest about what yuh coming about, explain yuh self clearly to mi," he said.

"People don't see my attitude as unapproachable, yuh nuh, a my face, an dat wid people, dem love watch face too much, an tell yuh, dat's why Jamaican people got trick, ca' a lot of people smile (heeeey) an jook dem inna dem back, because they like to watch face."

He continued, "Looks is deceiving ... some a mi real fans dem, dem nuh business, dem jus step to Killer ... Hear wa, my fans dem wey love me nah step to me wid no wrong statement, dem think bout wah dem a guh sey to Killer hard an long first, so anytime dem gain da courage de fi step to Killer, is straight courtesy dem a get, ca' dem nah step to him wid nuh foolishness."

"Suh a some people fans always waan meet me an a gwaan like dem tek mi fi eediat. Killer fans dem nuh 'fraid a him, dem know exactly how him stay, he is a no-nonsense man, suh a suh him a guh look, a suh him gwaan ... an dem know Killer love him fans more dan anything."
