According to online radio station 876radio.com, Mavado & Asafa Powell have teamed up with NIKE.
POWELL
Just a few months ago Sportsgear manufacturer Nike unveiled a custom design running shoe for the fastest man in the World over 100m, Asafa Powell.
According to a representative from the company Asafa's pair of running spikes are the strongest and the lightest in the world and is designed specifically for the 100 metre sprint races at the 2008 Olympics set for Beijing, China this summer.
Nike says that the shoes will be refined after every meet that Powell competes in leading up to the Olympics and the final product will don any design and colour requested by the Jamaican.
MAVADO
With the dawning of the new year there is no stopping Dancehall's fastest rising bad boy and protégé of the Warlord, Mavado. Who since the release of his album 'Gangsta For Life - The Symphony of David Brooks' has been enjoying a steady stream of success, from collaboration with rap mogul Jay-Z to video game deals and recently being featured on the official mixtape for U.S. Presidential candidate Barack Obama.
876radio.com understands that the gully gad has caught the attention of Sportswear giants Nike who is set to premier a limited edition pair of Nike street shoe sporting the Gangsta's name and signature taglines. The shoe which dons the national colours of Jamaica has a retro look and feel to it. Efforts by 876radio.com to reach a Nike company representative and Mavado's management proved futile, but it is speculated by a source close to the deejay that only four (4) pairs of the coveted shoe will be manufactered, this however has not been confirmed.
I have embedded a copy of Asafa's running shoes and Mavado Retro fitted sneakers, image of Mavado sneakers courtesy of First Magazine. (see image below)
