TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A Tampa police officer is recovering from a beating after a prostitution sting turned violent.
Police say Officer Alberto Burgos was posing as a customer when he was approached by a woman and two men early Monday.
According to investigators, Burgos arranged to meet the others with $50 cash at a Tampa park. Once there, authorities say the two men attempted to rob Burgos, dragging him from his van and beating him.
A police spokeswoman says one of the men brandished a knife. Burgos then fired at the men, striking one in the upper body. Police say the man is hospitalized in critical condition.
Officers are searching for the other man. The woman is in custody.
