Employees in the Entertainment Department at Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort in Montego Bay struggled for the second day yesterday to cope with the tragic loss of two members of their team. Both persons died tragically in a motor vehicle accident in Hanover on Sunday.
The fatalities are Akerie Christian 19, of Neptune Avenue, Kingston 17 and 24 year-old Jacqueline Jacques of Savannah District, Hayes, Clarendon.
The Constabulary Communication Networks Liaison Officer for Hanover reported that about 4 p.m., Jacques was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla motor car registered 5929 EV which was being driven by Christian along the slippery Orange Bay main road.
They were heading towards Montego Bay when on reaching a section of the roadway, they were involved in a collision with a Hino tour bus registered PC 6439 driven by Bunny Grant 47, of Green River, Hanover. Christian and Jacques sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot.
On Monday, colleagues of the deceased wept openly as they remembered their dedication to their jobs and their personalities. The Green Island Police are investigating.
PASSAGE OF DEATH CLAIMS ANOTHER LIFE Another motorist lost his life along the notorious stretch of road between Station Road and New Hope, Little London, Westmoreland on Friday, after the driver reportedly lost control of the motorcar he was driving and slammed into a tree on the opposite side of the road killing him on the spot.
The dead man has been identified as 37 year-old Trevor Francis a chef employed to Riu Hotel, Negril and a resident of the Church Lincoln community in Grange Hill in the parish.
The Little London Police theorized that Francis may have been on his way to work and was perhaps speeding when he lost control of his white Mitsubishi Lancer motorcar bearing registration plate 4462 FA. The out of control vehicle then ran off the road and collided with a tree. Francis, who was the lone occupant, died immediately. The police responded and the body removed to the morgue while the ill-fated car was taken away to a depot.
The driver received multiple injuries to the head and body and died on the spot. It would be a miracle if he was to survive, Corporal Fedrol Bryan.
His death brings to ten the number of persons that have lost their lives on that very piece of roadway and is just the latest. On Wednesday night a motorcyclist was hit from his bike. He too succumbed to his injuries.
Passing Little London heading towards Negril while driving is a drivers paradise as the road is in a relatively good condition and is not very populated, the Western Mirror writers observed, and many drivers are tempted to increase driving speed once in that general area. But a word of caution from one resident who was one of the first on the scene; This is like the passage of death, because from as long as I have been living here, the amount of accidents I see is uncountable, Maxine Rampoon said. That man could never live. You nuh see how the car crumple up like a piece of paper, she said.
Meanwhile, the police are asking motorists not to heed to temptation while driving along the road, but to maintain the 50 MPH speed limit. Corporal Bryan is urging drivers to observe the required limits so as to reduce the likelihood of a major accident.
