An air conditioner/refrigerator technician must have thought his pants were big and cold enough to hide and store eight parcels of beef he stole from a supermarket. But, he must have been equally surprised when he was held after trying to leave the supermarket with the meat.
Simple larceny
Michael Anderson was fined $5000 or 30 days for simple larceny when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. He pleaded guilty to stealing the meat from a supermarket in east Kingston but said he was drunk, which was why he committed the act.
Allegations are that Anderson went to the Shopper's Fair Supermarket in Harbour View and stuffed eight parcels of beef in his pants and tried to leave without paying for the items at the check-out counter. He was then apprehended and the police called in.
Drunken state
Yesterday, Anderson told the court that he was not aware of his actions on the day in question as he was in a drunken state due to heavy alcohol consumption at the time. However, the investigating officer in the matter told Resident Magistrate Glen Brown that there were no signs of intoxication when the accused was picked up.
