A man who beat up his child's mother was sent recently to get counselling in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
Jermaine Daley, 26, a customer service representative from Kingston, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and assault.
It is alleged that the two were at a party when an argument developed between them and Daley used a knife to scrape the complainant in her face causing her to fall to the ground.
It was further alleged that when she fell, he stepped in her head several times and when he attempted to stab at her with a knife, she held unto the blade causing her to get a cut in her hand.
When the accused pleaded guilty, he told the court that the argument developed because she had approached him about a woman he was talking to and she had threatened to harm the lady. "The situation boil over and I just react," he told the court.
However when the RM asked him if he wanted to go to jail, he said no because he had a son, his mother and grandmother to care for. He also said he was willing to pay her hospital bills.
The complainant told the court that she had lost $8000 pay for the week she was absent from work due to injuries. The accused only had $9,000 with him, which he was told to pay over to the complainant.
She also said she wanted $10,000 rather than the $9,000 she was now receiving. In an effort to resolve their conflicts, RM Glen Brown ordered both to go to the Dispute Resolution Foundation (DRF) for counselling. Both are to return to court on May 30 when the matter will be mentioned.
