Bad *lo** between Rebel and Sugar Blacks?

Bad *lo** between Rebel and Sugar Blacks?
14 May 2008 | by A.K.A., Contributing Writer

There is apparently some bad *lo** between Sugar Blacks and Tony Rebel stemming from their bitter parting of ways years ago which led to a heated verbal exchange backstage at the recently concluded Western Consciousness show. Sugar Blacks has repeatedly said that Rebel underpaid him for several years while he worked as a harmony singer for the Fresh Vegetable singer and his company, Flames Production.

"I went on countless tours and he only paid me US$80 each time telling us that they were all promotional tours, and then the one time,I did harmony for Everton Blender at a show in the Caribbean, me and Lehbanculeh get US$500 each. Even after we have the hit songs, Oh Jah and Tears Gonna Come, we no get no money fi bookings either, and fi years, we worked for him, singing great harmony and we no get nothing." he said.

Sugar Black said that he and Rebel had not exchanged words for almost eight years when they had a heated exchange at this year's Western Consciousness show.  He said Rebel threatened to kill him, but Black said he was not afraid. He also claimed to have reported the incident at the Half Way Tree police station, registering the complaint under his real name, Patrick Hall. Checks with the HWT Police station could not confirm that a report had been made.

"Him need fi know say me have hyenas and wolves inna my family too," he said.

However, Rebel has denied Sugar Black's allegations saying that "Black was looking a hype".

"He's trying a thing, it has been 10 years since he left Flames, if he was a good artiste,, him woulda buss already. This is not the first time he is trying to look a hype off me, and worse now, with Queen Ifrica doing so well, we're not even going to pay him any mind," Rebel said.

Sugar Black has also said that he and Rebel fought "fist to fist" and with stones during an ugly incident at the Anchor Recording studio in 2000. Black alleges that Rebel broke two of his ribs when he punched him whlie a stone gripped in his fist.

"The man bruk two of mi ribs, but I never followed up the court thing because mi know say is a buyout thing. Both of us had been arrested at the time but mi fly out after the first court date and it just die down. The man is wicked, him need to leave me alone because it nah go happen like that again, next time ah different thing," he said.

For his part, Rebel denied breaking his ribs, playing down the incident saying that 'Sugar Black get couple slap up, that's all'.
