Remy Ma and Papoose's jailhouse nuptials were nixed yesterday when the groom was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle a handcuff key to his incarcerated bride. Pap explains to SOHH what happened with his wedding and his new wife's sentence.
As SOHH previously reported, prison officials threw Papoose in a cell, cancelled the vows and said Pap can't come back to visit Rem for six months. They allege he was trying to slide her the key.
Papoose told a SOHH reporter on the scene at Rem's sentencing today (May 13), that's not how it went down.
"The handcuff thing was ridiculous," Pap told SOHH exclusively. "The law states, if I carried a handcuff key into a prison, I would have been arrested."
According to hip-hop insider Miss Info -- who got the info straight from DJ Kay Slay -- the skeleton key on Pap's keychain is years old and has remained on his key chain each of the several times he's visited Remy at Rikers.
Apparently, when asked to turn over the key during a security check at Rikers, Pap gave the keys over with no incident. He was traveling to the wedding with Remy's mother and three other guests. But right before boarding the prison bus, he was pulled aside and taken to see the warden. That's when Pap found himself thrown in jail and the wedding off.
Marlon, one half of Remy's management team also said the wedding cancellation was basically a setup.
"Pap has not missed one visit while she was at Rikers," he told SOHH. "Every C.O. knows him. The skeleton key thing was bogus."
"[Pap] knew something was up when they asked him to come back," he continued. "He never made it to the chapel. The officers told Remy they had to reschedule. No one told her what happened. She didn't find out until she spoke with Pap."
When asked about waiting out the six months and rescheduling the wedding, Pap told reporters that he and Rem were already official anyway.
"We're already married," he said.
Remy was sentenced to eight years this morning on first-degree assault, criminal weapons charges and attempted coercion, for shooting her former friend, Makeda Barnes-Jospeh, in the abdomen last July. She maintains the shooting was an accident.
whoa...I didn't even know she and Papoose were together. I'm so freaking lost. Let's see how great this love is but I believe she would get out on parole.
