A 13-YEAR-OLD boy who stabbed a boy of 14 at school, today admitted to a court he had wounded the teen.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested after an incident at a secondary school in Leeds on February 1.
Police and paramedics were called to the school where a teenager, who also cannot be named, was taken to hospital with knife wounds to his chest and stomach.
Today, at Leeds Crown Court, the 13-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful wounding and another of having a bladed article on school premises.
He was due to go on trial today charged with the more serious offence of wounding the youngster with intent.
But prosecutor Peter Moulson said the defendants pleas to the lesser charges were acceptable and he would be offering no evidence on the more serious matter.
Mr Moulson stressed this decision had been taken after extensive consultation, including with the victims family.
Judge John Taylor said this move was a "very sensible step".
The case was not opened and few details of the incident were given in court.
But the judge did inspect the weapon involved in the incident which appeared to be a wooden handled kitchen-type knife, with a blade about four inches long which was clearly bent.
The court heard how the knife was bent on a school desk during the "scuffle".

Judge Taylor adjourned the case so reports on the defendant could be prepared.
The defendant will be sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on June 6.
