A teenager charged with taking part in the murder of a Yonkers diner deliveryman carrying an $18 order says he never meant to hurt the victim.
Xavier Goodwine said in court documents that the deadly shooting "wasn't supposed to happen like that." He says he and an unnamed friend planned only to rob deliveryman Martin Antonio Perez.
The 19-year-old Goodwine faces murder, attempted robbery and other charges in the Dec. 17 slaying.
He said in court papers that he and his friend ordered from the Emerald Diner to set a robbery. He says Perez ran off when the suspects confronted him in a stairwell at the Riverview apartment complex.
Goodwine said he heard a shot while chasing Perez.
Perez was working to make holiday money for his baby daughter.
