"I went online this morning, hoping to see you log in like every other morning. It dawned on me when I didn't see that smiling face beside your name, that you are gone ..."
This was one of the many comments posted by several baffled friends of Antwain Moxam on his HI5 internet page a day after he was found dead at his home in Savanna-la-Mar.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the 20-year-old may have shot himself.
Antwain, the son of a policeman, is suspected of committing suicide at the family home at the Llandilo housing scheme in Westmoreland.
According to police reports, approximately 1:45 p.m., Monday, the policeman was called to his house where he found his son slumped over a computer in the living room with a gunshot wound to the head. A suicide note was displayed on the desktop and a firearm found beside the body.
The scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue for post-mortem.
Sonia Moxam, Antwain's mother, said the incident has shocked the family, who never saw this coming. "No one expected this. There was no sign of depression. He was a good student and he has good friends," she said.
She said the loss of her only son is difficult for his six sisters to accept. "The smallest one is finding it very hard. She don't want to come to the house because she can't believe he is gone," she said.
She said they have no idea why he killed himself and the suicide note he left did not give an explanation. "He was a quiet person. He had his friends and he never use to give any trouble," Moxam said.
'Life is boring'
However Antwain, who was an information technology student at the Caribbean Institute of Technology, in a HI5 journal entry entitled 'Boredom', declared that "Days are boring, nights are boring, drunkenness is boring, sobriety is boring, life is boring, hmmm I wonder how death would feel ..."
One thing is for sure, life will now be 'boring' for his family and friends who described him as a fun young man. "He was a fun-loving person, he was someone you could talk to, he was always there for people," a friend said.
Several comments posted on his HI5 page echoed similar sentiments. "You said best friend until the end, I never expected this to be the end. You will always be in my heart," another comment read.
