Given the street buzz on Harry Toddlers latest song, Pon We, it seems that the DJ may well have found another hit to complement his current chart-burner, Dont Run In which is in the top ten of all major local charts. The song was recorded on the rhythm called Stinking, a Ward 21 production, conceptualized by the master himself, Suku.
We recorded it three weeks ago, and we premiered it at Uptown Mondays rounda Savanna Plaza and the place lift up when it draw, ah mad ting. When me see the reaction, mi know this tune have potential to grow and if promoted the right way, it can come lead, he said.
The lyrics are the typical bling-worship and brand name fixation that is common fare in the dancehall, however, Harry Toddlers sing-song delivery and catchy rhyming styles make the song easy to catch, and almost impossible to programme out of your head.
The lyrics go:
Everything ah name brand pon we When we step out, at least 50 grand pon we Sure yu no see no jing bang pon we Crazy gal waan put dem hand pon we
We no airstrip, no plane nah land pon we Everything right, nothing no wrong pon we We no beat knock off, ah name brand pon we Yeah Pon we pon we pon we Dutty nigga have dem eye pon we Pon we pon we pon we Mek dem know we have all strap pon we Weh dem ah go inna Versace Nobody caan put Sean John pon we
Harry Toddler believes that the song can go a long way, and is the follow-up chart hit for his current hit. Mi know say Pon We ah go lead, plus me have a next song name No Tearing on Jam 2 new rhythm that mi know ah go connect. The producer believe inna it, me believe inna it, ah murda, he said.
In the meantime, Dont Run In is #2 on the Jamaica Music Countdowns dancehall charts, #6 on the RE TV dancehall charts and it is also on the top ten of the HYPE TV charts.
Harry Toddler performed at the Spring Break show in Negril last weekend and is booked to appear on the Mountain Dew Stunt Festival later this month.
