The Jamaican music video - The Best and worst of times

BEST

Lloyd Lovindeer

Poco Party (Lovindeer) - This one captures pocomania at its best and the scene where Uncle Tom loses his teeth is priceless.

Wild Gilbert - Lovindeer scored again with this one. Anybody who says they could not relate to even one line, is embellishing.

Church Heathen (original) - Shaggy captures the church scene oh so well. And Brother Desmond, of course.

Mr Heartless - Anthony B using Riverton as the background and the use of the orchestra dressed in white as a contrast made for a 'tuff' video.

Trailer Load (Shabba Ranks) - This video showed you what dancehall fashion was all about.

Cree (TOK) - The video game play idea was quite innovative. Jamaica had not seen that before.

Ghetto Story (original) - This video by Baby Cham brought the ghetto life experience to the fore.

Take These Wings (Christopher Martin) - The slavery look and storyline resonates well with the song. Could have settled for a 'regular' scene set in the 21st century.

Deportee - Probably one of Buju's best local videos.

Wear Yuh Size (Stitchie) - Unlike some videos shot in plazas when they didn't have to be, this one fully called for that and supported the lyrics.

WORST

Leroy Smart

There's A Hole In The Pumpkin - From the start, it was just wrong with Ini Kamoze placing a pumpkin on the man's head. Never recovered.

Man A Soldier - Typical Leroy Smart video, because the minute he starts to sing, he heads for the ground and calls it dancing.

One Scotch - What really boggles the mind is the movement of Chakademus and Admiral Bailey while cutting the tune.

Leave The Trees (Chezidek) - Like the song. But the budget seemed to have been really low.

Beenie Man

Blackboard (Beenie Man) - Why oh why were some scenes shot in a quarry?

Many Many (Scare Dem Crew) - If you're going to be parading around on bikes, don't use scooters. There were no 500cc available that day?

Stop The Fighting - Dennis Brown is the Crown Prince of reggae but the scene where he just walks up to Oliver Samuels and the lady beating the crap out of him and separating their fight with just a few lines from the song seems a bit unrealistic.

Mi Salt - I-Maroon might have enough bad luck already but the video really didn't help the song's cause.

Rasta World Dance (Junior Reid) - The song was a disaster and the video basically had a bunch of dreadlocked individuals flashing their locks. Not too creative.

Part-time Love (Carl Dawkins) - While the song is a hit, the lines "rainy rainy night in October" don't go well with the sunny background in much of the video.
