"Only a picture," is what Beenie Man says he has to use to remember his son Marco-Dean.
Beenie Man, told THE STAR in a sit-down interview yesterday that he has not seen his son for eight months. "From July last year (2007) mi nuh si Marco-Dean. D'Angel nuh lift di injunction, suh mi cyan guh a ar yard gate, ar store, nutt'n."
D'Angel, estranged wife of the dancehall 'doctor', had taken out a court injunction against him last year after a public altercation at their MAFIA House Production premises at 8 Garelli Avenue on August 14.
Beenie Man, who formed the company with D'Angel, was escorted off the premises by the police after he removed office furniture and other stationery, claiming they belonged to him.
Beenie Man says he feels as if D'Angel, real name, Michelle Downer, is trying to spite him and he can't see why, "because mi neva do 'ar nutt'n. Mi neva cheat pon mi wife. Mi rather guh lie down out a door than lie wid a nex woman."
The fairytale marriage of the two entertainers came to a very bitter and public end in 2007 after reports of physical abuse and accusations of infidelity by both parties.
When contacted, D'Angel was said to be unavailable for a comment on the matter and according to her publicist, the injunction has nothing to do with Beenie Man not seeing Marco-Dean.
"That is separate, but everything is in court, the injunction, the custody over Marco-Dean, child support, everything. The matter is in court, so we don't want to speak about it and when the case is resolved, the public will know the truth of the matter and we have the evidence to show for everything," D'Angel's publicist who did not wish to be named, told THE STAR.
Based on a release that was issued by D'Angel's camp last year, Beenie Man had not made any attempt to see his son, Marco-Dean, since he left the matrimonial home.
The release said, "Beenie Man made no attempt to call to enquire about the welfare of his son, nor did he provide any maintenance for Marco Dean from he left the matrimonial home in April 2007, until he was ordered by the court in September to start making interim payments."
The interim payments were to be made until the child's paternity was confirmed. The judge had ordered Beenie Man to pay about $30,000 per month, but the sum may have been increased since the paternity confirmed that Beenie Man was, in fact, the father of the child.
