SCQ quarter-finals on for next week

It was certainly an interesting mixture of matches in Round Two of TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz action last week. The matches proved to be either keenly contested or unimpressive, beginning with Dinthill Technical's match against newcomers Lennon High.

The first round ended with a tie of three points. By the end of the second section, Dinthill had advanced to 12 points and Lennon High to five points.

The final section was unimpressive as Dinthill put in a weak performance ending on 10 points, with Lennon High on seven points.
Coach of Lennon High, Yvonne Smith, was satisfied with her team's performance.

"Some of the questions were a bit difficult from the ones we prepared for. I am proud of them and the fact that they tried," she said.

The second match between Knox College and seventh seed Clarendon College was keenly contested. At the end of the first section the team had a tie of seven points. By the end of section two the Knox team held a one-point lead of 19 points and Knox 18 points. At the end of the match the Knox team barely secured a victory with 25 points with Clarendon College on 24 points.

The stimulating final match of the day was between 10th seed Wolmer's Girls and Merl Grove. At the end of Round One, Wolmer's lagged behind by two points to Merl Grove's nine. In the second section, however, Wolmers picked up the pace by gaining 20 points while match leaders Merl Grove had 25 points.

In the buzzer section, Wolmer's made a comeback by answering all of the questions attempted correctly bringing their total to 34 points leaving Merl Grove to trail behind with 29 points.
"The final section was definitely a humdinger," gloated coach of the Wolmer's team, Paul Thomas.

On Tuesday, the match between Kingston College and José Marti Technical was poor. The KC team barely managed to clinch a victory of 30 points compared to Jose Marti's 21 points.

José Marti coach Otis Brown told TEENage that he felt the match was keenly contested.
"If we had a few minutes more we could have gotten the victory," he stated.

The second match, between St Jago and Bridgeport, ended with St Jago the victors on 26 points and Bridgeport on 23 points. The final match between Cornwall College and 12th seed Ardenne High was an intense one. The first round ended with Ardenne on 16 points and Cornwall on 14 points.

By the end of the speed section Cornwall had secured 33 points and Ardenne 36 points. In the final segment, Cornwall lost 4 points for two incorrect answers and ended with 30 points, while Ardenne scored 50 points.

Coach for Ardenne High, Reverend Glen Archer, stated that the victory was "a good win".
The Round Three matches started yesterday, while the quarter-finals are scheduled to begin next Tuesday, March
