Bahamian Chris Brown and Jamaica's 1,600-metre men's relay team boosted the English-speaking Caribbean's medal haul to four as the 12th IAAF World Indoor track and field championship ended yesterday.

Brown took the bronze medal in the men's 400 metres in 46.26 seconds and Jamaica's men chased the United States to collect silver in the men's 4X400-metre relay.

Their medal successes added to those of Kim Collins and Tahesia Harrigan, who had picked up sprint medals on Friday's opening day.

Brown ran his fastest time this season as Canada's Tyler Christopher clocked a world-leading 45.67 seconds for the men's 400-metre gold medal. Sweden's Johan Wissman finished second in 46.04 seconds.

Brown kept pressing narrow leader Wissman and their tactics playing perfectly into the hands of the Canadian.

As the pair in the front wore themselves out over the final backstraight, Christopher positioned himself perfectly for his closing sprint.

In the men's 4x400 metres, the Jamaican team of Michael Blackwood, Edino Steele, Adrian Findlay and DeWayne Barrett clocked a season's best three minutes 7.69 seconds for the runner-up spot behind the USA's world-leading run of 3:06.79.

Jamaal Torrence logged a rapid second-leg (45.73 split) for the USA to take command.

Findlay moved up to threaten for Jamaica on the third leg and the anchor man Barrett surged into second with 200 metres to go and held off the Dominican Republic's Yoel Tapia to secure the silver.
