Queen's scrape by José Marti

Although giving an uncharacteristic performance which was way below expectations, The Queen's School team managed to survive some "self induced" competition from José Marti to win their matchup 26-22 and advance to round three of this year's TVJ School's Challenge Quiz.

One could not help but notice that the girls' performance warranted some hope for José Marti. At one point during the match, the atmosphere in the studio was so tense that when the final bell sounded, several persons could be heard breathing a sigh of relief.

"They didn't play good at all. They're lucky it was Jose Marti," one spectator told THE STAR.

This statement would be afterwards confirmed by the winning team members as they too admitted to THE STAR that their showing was lucklustre. They, however, noted that they will be looking to prepare themselves better for their next match which is expected to be quite a showdown.

deadlocked

At the end of the first section, both teams were deadlocked on six points with neither gaining any momentum.

The Queen's School would get better in the second section though, as José Marti brought their lukewarm play into the section.

wrong answers

In their first of three separate minute-long segments, they would answer eight questions incorrectly before gaining their first point. That was as far as it would go in that minute, as they gave a string of incorrect answers.

This would continue into the following two minute-long segments, sparking numerous corrections from quiz master Devon Yetman.

José Marti ended the section with 18 points.

The Queen's School, similarly, gave a lukewarm showing. They did, however, manage a four-point lead and ended the section with 22 points.

The final section lacked in buzzer activity from either team.

Both competitors attempted a total of five questions with Queen's accounting for three of those attempts, one of which was incorrect.

Consequently, The Queen's School emerged 26-22 victors.

Members of The Queen's School team: Tameka Wright (captain), Shanice Nettleford, Felicia Francis and Daveda Dixon.

Members of the José Marti team: Jermaine Francis (captain), Clinton Walker, Marlon Brown and O'shane Grant.
