Love him or hate him, Jamaican artiste Moses 'Beenie Man' Davis still remains the most popular artiste around. The recently held IRIE FM Awards attested to this when he copped the coveted People's Choice Award and also walked away with the Reggae Academy Award for the Most Popular Artiste.

"While some persons may scoff at these awards because they are not aware of their importance, they are the milestones being laid that will eventually lead to the Lifetime Awards as he has already copped the prestigious 2000 Grammy Award," says his delighted Khool Entertainment publicist, Ray Alexander.

The versatile DJ seems to get better amidst several controversial events that have made him no doubt one of the artiste who continues to make headlines in both electronic and print media.

Beenie Man, a child prodigy who came on the scene in the mid 80s, became the most popular dancehall entertainer by the mid 90s.

By 1991 Beenie Man fell out of grace with the entertainment fraternity when he was booed off stage at a show celebrating the visit of Nelson Mandela for drawing on inappropriate lyrics. This crushing event was to, however, make Beenie Man renew his desire for success. At the age of 19, he dropped an album titled 'Cool Cool Rider' which went largely unnoticed.

However, with several international tours and distribution agreements for his work, Beenie Man's international reputation and record sales also expanded, culminating in a record-setting seven 1999 International Reggae & World Music Awards and a 2000 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album for 'Art & Life'. Throughout his career, Beenie Man incorporated various styles such as techno, R&B, hip-hop, and Latin rhythms and stagecraft dancing into his work, pushing the boundaries of reggae.

Beenie Man's conquistador style of the dancehall has seen him copping awards from the 1998 Tamika Awards for Best Video Of The Year Dancehall Queen along with Chevelle Franklyn, International Artiste of The Year, C****ination/Duo of The Year along with Chevelle Franklyn, DJ Of The Year, Crossover Record of The Year along with Chevelle Franklyn; International Reggae & World Music Awards (IRWMA), Best Music Video, Best Male DJ, Most Outstanding Stage Personality, Recording Artiste of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Best Gospel-Oriented Song, and Entertainer of the Year, 1999; American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) Songwriter Award, 1999-2000; Grammy Award, Best Reggae Album, 2000; Music of Black Origins Award, Best Reggae Act, 2000.

For 2007, his awards were for the categories of Best Dressed Male Artiste, DJ Of The Year, Most Popular Artiste, People's Choice Artiste of the Year, Best Collaboration of The Year shared with Barbee and the unofficial all media awards for Most Controversial and Humorous Artiste and DJ of the Decade.
