From the very outset of his career Dancehall Bad Boy Mavado has been coming under a lot of pressure from various sectors of society locally and now it seems to have spread overseas.
Earlier today and email was sent to the offices of owadkelly from a very concerned citizen of Trinidad and Tobado, apparently his concerns stems from a recent stabbing incident in the twin island republic that involved a secondary school boy being killed.
According to industry personnel in the land of soca, a lot of the violence that happens in the country is being perpetuated by dancehall and hip hop music with the main culprits being Mavado, Bounty Killer and 50 Cents, fingers were also pointed at Busy Signal and Demarco but Mavado seems to have suffered the brunt of the criticism.
The email read,
"A simple suggestion to help curb the issue of crime that's daunting our nation is for government to implement greater restriction on the lyrical content of some artistes.
Such as Mavado, Bounty Killa, 50 Cent...... and the list goes on. These guys are not entertainers in my mind and they are in no way impacting positively on us, the leaders of tomorrow. My goodness have you listened to a Mavado's CD? Utter nonsense. Not that Busy Signal or Demarco is any better.
As a matter of fact if they can't sing anything with sense ban them from performing such damaging and nerve-wracking songs in our country. We have to start somewhere. Come on my fellow citizens let's get rid of the 'Gangster for Life' mentality and use the free education. It's our only hope." Apparently the killing of this schoolboy has struck a nerve and some radio jock in an effort to bring the spiraling crime under control has taken a stance to revise what gets played on the airwaves. Does this mean that a ban may be imminent on Jamaican dancehall music in Trinidad, only time will tell.
