For the second consecutive year, North America's premier reggae festival - Irie Jaum***boree - snagged two nominations for "Concert of the Year" and "Promoter of the Year" at the 27th Anniversary of the International Reggae & World Music Award (IRAWMA) that will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the world famous Apollo Theater, 253 W 125th Street, New York.
Commenting on the nominations, event publicist Anthony Turner said, "Irie Jaum***boree has become an integral part of the Labor Day weekend celebration here in the tri-state area. We thank our sponsors, the hard working production staff and patrons who have consistently supported us over the years."
Irie Jaum***boree 2k7, which was held last year on Sunday, September 2, was a first class production. The event attracting well over 30,000 music lovers who were engaged by spectacular performances from Morgan Heritage, Stephen Marley, Jr. Gong, Tony Matterhorn, Munga, Macka Diamond, Etana, Anthony B, Beenie Man, Lady Saw, Luciano, Assassin, Mr Easy and Da'Ville. Several young, upcoming acts left an impressive mark on the festival. Leading the charge were Jovi Rockwell, One Third, New York based acts Empress Isis, Ras David, Ras Penco, Hench Man, and Lady Ann who all performed well.
This year's IRAWMA will be televised in more than 20 Caribbean islands and on network television in the USA. The celebration will begin with a red carpet VIP reception at 6PM. The awards ceremony will start at 7PM.
