Thursday, 28 February 2008 Hundreds of persons are on Thursday scheduled to participate in a Peace March in Grants Pen, St. Andrew.
The march, which is organised by the Grants Pen Community Policing Consultative Committee, is in support of the National Peace Month initiative spearheaded by the Violence Prevention Alliance.
It is also intended to send a message to persons involved in gangs and other forms of violence.
The main participants will be residents and students from schools in the Grants Pen area as well as representatives of civic groups.
The March will begin at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Barbican and Grants Pen Roads and end at the Peace Park.
During the march two stops will be made, one at the intersection of Grants Pen Road and Grants Pen Drive and the other at the intersection of Grants Pen Road and Morgan Lane.
At the Peace Park, short speeches will be made by Children's Advocate Mary Clarke and other speakers.
Speakers have been asked to focus on the negative effects of violence on children's development and communities.
