Maybe Lutan Fyah has taken his deejay name a bit too literally.
The singer, whose real name is Andre Martin, was taken into custody by the Spanish Town police on a charge of suspected arson earlier this week and is expected to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
mzjaEntertainment.com understands that the singer, who is known for hits such as St. Jago De La Vega and Save the Juveniles, was involved in a controversial incident last year with men from the Beacon Hill community in Thompson Pen.
A few houses were burnt down allegedly by men aligned with Lutan Fyah after those men had heckled the deejay at a stage show and even suggested that Lutan Fyah had had an intimate relationship with an underage girl in Thompson Pen.
Lutan Fyah's camp has repeatedly denied the allegations.
The situation was successfully mediated in the days following the torching of the house and it was expected that the deejay would have made restitution to the burnt-out families, or at least rebuilt the house. Nothing was done, and Martin, who was a long-time resident of Thompson Pen, had subsequently moved out of the community.
The police then made the arrest after conducting further investigations into the incident.
It is ironic that the deejay was arrested during the same week which he won an EME (Excellence in Music and Entertainment) award for being the Most Cultural artiste.
