Malijah who won hearts with the hit No Combo in 2007, believes that he may already be on the verge of landing his next big hit with his latest single, Smoking which criticizes males who he calls joker smokers.
"The concept came about when a man came to me one day and begged me a spliff and it turn out say me end up haffi give him grabber and lighter, everyting, so him can have a smoke. So mi realize that he is a joker smoker, him have a habit and caan maintain it," Malijah said.
"Even the man himself realize it because we de de a hold a meds and a next man beg another man a spliff and a light and him not get nothing, and him turn to me and say him lucky because him get everything him need fi smoke and feel irie."
The song, produced by Fernando Garcia, on the Nice Time label is already getting excellent rotation in the dancehall. In the meantime, Malijah's No Combo hit with Zenny has been paying dividends, and he performed at most of the major shows in the last few months including Pepsi Teensplash, Trelawny Family Fun Day, March Out 2008, Reggae Fever, a brilliant performance at Rebel Salute 08, and the recent Goodfellas anniversary dance in Naggo Head, Portmore.
"We're making moves, doing what we have to do. The No Combo song is getting great response in the UK, Cayman Islands, disc jockeys from Diverse FM, and Vibes FM in the UK say the tune sell off, so we're going to continue working," he said.
Malijah's upcoming shows include Western Consciousness, Negril Spring Break and a show in Columbia in June.
