New York, Miami, Atlanta, Europe, Canada, Spanish Town, Kingston, Portmore, di whole Jamaica, mi just forward in from Montego Bay. And mi a give yuh a little synopsis of what gwaan down ah Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues the other day.
For me, Thursday was the best night with Anita Baker and ting, mi love how Richie B walk up on her and get the crowd fi start sing happy birthday to Anita who celebrated her birthday on Saturday. Minister of Tourism Ed Bartlett walked out with a cake, and yuh shoulda hear Richie B and the crowd ah sing. And mi see Richie B buss a big kiss pon Anita Baker deh, little most security did haffi rush in fi drag him offa her. Still, it was a nice vibe and the eight-time Grammy winner Anita mash up the place wid her hits pon top of hits. There's No One in the World like Anita
On Friday, Jill Scott performed a wicked extended set after Lou Gramm, known for the 1984 hit, I Wanna Know What Love Is failed to recover from his bout with the flu in time to perform. Although he was missed, the organisers did their best to give a great show. They also brought on Ernie Smith on the smaller stage and he rocked a crowd of 4,000 plus in the early morning.
Billy Ocean closed the show on Saturday morning with the hits after Diana Ross pulled off another of her infamous 'diva' moments. She insisted that no filming take place during her set which meant that the large crowd could not get to see her on any of the large screen projection sets in the venue. Further, she requested that the sound be turned down and so disgruntled fans, who could not hear or see her, did the only thing they could do, let their voices be heard with a loud boo which Ms. Ross will not soon forget. One patron in the crowd remarked that this was the Angel treatment. Special props to Chalice who flattened the venue with the hits, Pocomania Day and Revival Time.
MACKA DIAMOND BINGO WAS OK I heard on the grapevine that the crowd turnout at Macka Diamond's bingo party was not all that great and that the bingo-playing crowd left soon after the games ended. However, a number of artistes such as Capleton showed up to support her, and performed short sets before the event wrapped up. We will give you more later, mi gone ah bed now, (yawn)..tired bad.
