Following the capture of Eldon Calvert, the alleged leader of the notorious Stone Crusher gang, the police say they are well on their way to solving multiple cases in which the 25-year-old was said to be involved.
Operation Kingfish believes they are now on course to clearing up at least 14 murders for which Calvert was fingered.
Calvert who is from the volatile Salt Spring community of St. James was reportedly placed on the most wanted list some two years ago. There was a million dollar reward being offered for his capture.
Elusive indiividual
Police sources had described him as a very elusive individual, as he had managed to escape them despite several close run-ins including blazing gun battles.
Calvert was nabbed on Monday following a police operation headed by members of Operation Kingfish. He along with three other persons including a woman were held at a premises in Wood Grove, Trelawny.
Police sources had placed Calvert on their suspect list in connection with the murder of five men, one of whom was reportedly beheaded, last January in Flower Hill, St. James. The police had theorised that the incident was an act of reprisal for his brother who was reportedly murdered in 2006.
