Man accused of trying to kill mum: case is dropped
The case against a man from Northampton accused of attempting to murder his mother has been dropped. James Bolton, 47, of Harefield Road in Goldings, had been arrested on suspicion of trying to force his mother Sylvia, aged 73, to take "a noxious substance" three days before she died.
But the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the case following the submission of new evidence.
Mr Bolton had been accused of attempted murder following his mothers death in St Barnabas Hospice, in Lincoln. She died of natural causes during the early hours of July 26, 2006.
Rachel Hill, of Lincolnshire Police, said: "New information has recently been presented to the Crown Prosecution Service and they've taken the decision that there's insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction."
