Thousands of guns which were seized will be destroyed Monday in an operation that will be carried out by the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
The operation will take place in Kingston, later Monday morning.
The weapons will be transported to the location under heavy security provided by members of the Jamaica Defence Force and the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
The operation which is the fourth of its kind since the year 2000 involves the guns being placed into a smelter and burnt.
The burning of the weapons lasts for at least seven hours.
After the guns are melted the iron left behind is used for more productive purposes.
There have been calls from some quarters that the guns taken off the country's streets be used by the police force instead of being destroyed.
i think all the guns should be destroyed for real. as a sign that we are not conceeding to crime. That is a Good move, i dont think we should keep them for police use. Gunmen are killing police left right and centre and taking there weapons in the process- control them by destroying them. thumbs up
