A man believed to be mentally challenged gave patients and other on-lookers in and around the University Hospital of the West Indies in St. Andrew, a scare after snatching a policewoman's service pistol and allegedly shooting himself.

Dead is 30-year-old Omar Graham of a Deanery Road, Kingston.

Reports are that at about 11:45 p.m., Graham was at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital. While at the hospital, a policewoman reportedly brought in a patient.

Graham then approached the officer, grabbed her firearm and ran some distance away.

Moments after, an explosion was heard and Graham's lifeless body was found with a gunshot wound believed to be self-inflicted.
