No Clash Leaves Fans Disappointed

There is a feeling of disappointment floating in the air, has many patrons who attended the recently concluded STING held at Jamworld, Portmore felt as if they they were cheated or short changed out of their entertainment dollar.

Even though from the perspective of the promoters, STING was a huge success, the same sentiments unfortunately are not being echoed by a lot of patrons. According to some persons interviewed by 876radio.com the absence of bottles and other projectiles being hurled through the air was a welcome change coupled with the increase in security personnel. But STING being the greatest one night reggae show on earth lacked entertainment value.

Many feel that the absence of the clash element has put a huge damper on the show, regardless of acts like, Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Queen Ifrica, Spice and Ninja Man amongst others all giving stellar performances. For many STING is the show were people go to see rival artistes settle their disputes and showing off their lyrical prowess while keeping the fans entertained which has been the tradition since it's inception is 1984.

The new image of promoting peace and love, is touted as a welcome change by many especially those in the upper echelons of society. But will this new format of staggering the acts in an effort of avoid them getting in to lyrical and possible physical confrontation be sustainable. Many patrons that we interviewed said if this trend continues they will not be returning as the STING that they pay their money to see is not what they are getting.

This year saw a lot of lyrical and in some case physical feuds being played out in the dancehall arena and on the local airwaves, most noticeable of those were Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Chino, Munga, Deva Brat, Flexx,Spice, D'Angel, Bounty, Beenie amongst other and to see them all culminate into one place without scores being settled, has a lot fans second guessing if STING has lost it's appeal wit that show format or shifted it's focus and is trying to become more of a family oriented show.
