Being the King of the Dance-hall is not an easy throne to keep, with competition stiff and naysayers trying to take away your crown. STAR Artiste of the Month Beenie Man is confident in his stance as king of the entire dancehall movement, not allowing anybody to take away his crown.
Beenie told The STAR, "They crown mi king in Africa, in Europe, Caribbean. Dem seh a king never get crown in his own country." With this in mind, Beenie Man views himself as the king and Lady Saw as the queen.
Perhaps one of the most vocal persons in the dancehall to counter Beenie Man's claim has been Yellow Man, one of the first dancehall artistes to make it big outside of Jamaica as well as rule in his own country.
Through the years, Yellow Man and Beenie Man have feuded over the title of who is the real big man, the real king.
However, according to Beenie Man, "Yellow Man is not making songs anymore. I am the king of the dancehall, I am not King Beenie Man, King Yellow Man is King Yellow Man that's his name, it's two different titles. Yellow Man wasn't crowned by nobody."
