Jah Cure and Tanya Stephens rock Bahamas in 'MC7' concert
16-Nov-07 |

Jah Cure  delivered a brilliant marquis performance to close the Millennium Countdown 7 show in The Bahamas on November 10. He blew away the Bahamians after-storm blues occasioned by Tropical Storm Noel which had threatened the island. The Bahamian  girls hung on his every word and screamed as he crooned his huge hits in a tight, beautifully orchestrated set that underlined his status as the big man in the business.

Tanya_Stephens.jpgHitting the stage at about 3: 00 a.m., he told the 8,000 strong audience that this the moment that he had been waiting for. The girls screamed their delight. He could do no wrong and he thrilled with favourites such as Nuh Build Great Man, Concrete Jungle and the soulful Jah Jah Bless Me.

He kept the banter in between songs to a bare minimum, and the crowd regarded his every move with almost iconic awe. The girls, in particular, were almost rabid in their desire for Jah Cure. During a break in his set, he gave a girl a half-finished bottle of water he had been sipping from, and four other girls grabbed it from her hand, spilling the water on their clothes, but they didnt seem to mind. And when he took off his jacket to reveal an all-white outfit, the screams reached deafening pitch.

Jah Cure closed his set with arguably his strongest songs, the sweet Love Is and True Reflections. He really blew away the Bahamians' after-storm blues. Earlier, Tanya Stephens, looking sexy in a red top and skin tight blue jeans blew away patrons with her witty banter in-between songs and her brilliant catalogue of hit songs such as These Streets, Its a Pity and What a Day. She was earthy when she had to be, giving her colourful take on the dynamic of male-female relationships and formerly tabooed practices such as oral sex.

High rollers such as Father Dozer, Reggae All Star promoter Ally Cole, Flowers' son, multi-millionaire Peter Nygard attended the event.

The show was produced by Downsound Records and Sigma.
