Beenie Man appeared in the Kingston Tax Court yesterday and was offered bail in the sum of $1.5 million with a surety. He is to return to court on December 10.
Resident Magistrate, Owen Parkin, issued a warrant last week for Beenie Man's arrest after he failed to attend court after being bound over to do so.
Beenie's lawyer Garth McBean asked R.M. Parkin to vacate the warrant but the judge turned down the application.
The deejay remained in custody until his bail papers were processed.
He had been summoned to court last month to answer to charges of tax evasion. The deejay reportedly owes $29,290,116 in back taxes and $18,641,254 in penalties, bringing the total amount owed to a whopping $47,931,371.
Last week RM Parkins, clearly upset by Beenie Man's failure to honour his court date had said, "No one is above the law, not even me." He also wondered out aloud about how the deejay could have missed a court date that was publicly mentioned on television and radio.
When THE STAR contacted Beenie Man, however, he explained that he was in New York shooting a music video with Barbee for their Paddy Cake single.
