a flash/flex file. I used TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.72R / SE6424AXXT11D4_1FF - 11.1MB, which is both the flash and the flex file combined - note: version originally used in this guide was TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.1DR_A / SE6446AXXF10F8, so any references to that just replace with this newer version.
Hardware you will need:
A USB data cable Note: some people find the plain looking cables without the thick bits on (ferrite cores) or boxes in the middle to be better for flashing as they prevent full power coming through.
Motorola V600
PC
Now that you've got everything you need, let's get started!
Unzip/extract the file called PST_6.7_GENERAL.zip (if you do not already have an unzipping program, I recommend you download and use WinRAR)
Run PST_6.7_GENERAL.exe to install the Product Support Tool software on your computer (by default to C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST\
If you are using Windows XP, you may be asked to install some patches. However, this is not essential and you can skip this if you wish.
After the installation, you will be asked to restart your computer. I chose to restart later as I'll be doing this after step 5.
Next unzip the files from PST_6.7_Patch.zip into the folder where you installed PST 6.7 (C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST\ by default). Overwrite any files in there with the new patch ones, and then restart your computer.
The files in p2kman_pst.zip are the drivers required for your computer to communicate to your V600 via the USB port. Therefore, unzip these into a folder you can access, as you may be asked for these files. I put them in C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST\ as this keeps all the files needed for flashing in one place.
You now need to extract the firmware and/or flex files. Again, for simplicity, I'd extract them to the PST folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST\). A word of warning though - once the firmware has been extracted, the resulting file is considerably larger than the zipped file, so ensure you have at least 60mb space spare! The firmware file downloaded from this website (TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.1DR_A_LP0039_JPG_0B_TRIP_0B_04.05R_SE6446AXXF10F8_1FF.rar) is a .rar file and will need unzipping to produce the file which can be used to flash with (same file name, but with .shx as an extension rather than .rar, but is much larger in file size - as shown in the image below). I used WinRAR to do this.
Now connect your phone to the PC using the USB cable. If you have not performed this proceedure before, Windows will detect the new hardware and ask for the drivers. Simply select the location of the files you extracted in step 6 (e.g. C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST\p2kman_pst\)
Next run the program MultiFlashFlex.exe, which is found in the PST folder (C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST\MultiFlashFlex.exe)
As we are using the combined flash and flex in this guide, check the "Enable Flash" box and then press the Browse button to select the flash file you extracted in step 7. If you were just flexing, you would select the "Enable Flex" box.
On the right hand side of the window, in the preferences section, ensure that the "Override existing phone software...", "Master Clear phones after flexing" and "Master Reset phones after flexing" checkboxes are ticked.
At the bottom of the window, under the "Device" column, you should see your phone listed. If not, make sure that everything is connected properly, and that the drivers are installed correctly and functioning.
You are now ready to begin the flashing process! Just press "Start" and wait - do not touch anything that may interrupt the process! (note: if you get asked for any drivers after pressing "start", simply press "next" when the window pops up, as Windows should automatically find the drivers you require. If it doesn't, point it to the PST directory as before. You may find it says "Flash Failed" after you've finished installing the drivers. This doesn't matter, just press start again and it should all go smoothly.)
It should take roughly 10 minutes to complete, after which you should have the new flash/flex installed to your phone - congratulations! However, when I flashed my phone, I noticed it took a while for anything to display in the "status" section and started to wonder if anything was happening - DON'T DO ANYTHING! It is actually doing something even if it doesn't look that way. After a few minutes or less the status will update and you will be able to see stages similar to those shown below. If it fails for some reason - don't worry! - simply switch your phone off and on again, and repeat the process.
After the program says "Successful FLASH!", you'll find your phone has switched itself off. Simply unplug everything and then switch your phone back on again (if your phone did not switch off, restart your phone to ensure that the new firmware becomes active).
Your phone will then start up as normal, except with the following differences: - you may find the language starts off as German - don't worry about this as the language should revert back to your normal one once it connects to your network. - it may take slightly longer than normal for the phone to find the network, but it will do (provided you can normally).
Congratulations! You've successfully flashed your Motorola
