Shouts of "JR Daine!" rang across the Kia Motors venue as the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition got under way on Saturday.
Those shouts were futile, however, as his run in the competition came to a screeching halt as he along with female contestant Latty Fabulous walked away being only third best.
Later in the competition, the clashes that were to materialise did, but failed to pack a punch as the remaining contestants went at it.
The females gave a far better clash than their male counterparts as Naomi stepped up her game and took on Yabalisious who retaliated with just as much vigour.
"Magnum fans are you ready for a lyrical showdown?" asked host Yanique as she got patrons ready for the clashes.
lyrical fire
Naomi made it clear that although she has a 'heart a love', "mi nah guh stand aside an mek fool walk over mi."
Yabalisious struck back spitting lyrical fire as she sought to bring the warfare to an end.
Specialist seemed intent on outdoing Hurricane as the two went head-to-head in their clash.
"A weh unu seh done him?" he asked.
"Hold on, dem a start war ..., machine full a lyrics when mi a squeeze it," he sang as the audience went wild.
He then hit home as he said, "short a breath nuh work inna my clashes," before Hurricane retaliated disclaiming Specialist's 'badness'.
"Weh unu seh dun him ya now?" asked Specialist again.
"Lyrics mi rise an Hurricane affi back up ..." he said as the two went deeper into clash mode.
Patrons were seemingly unsatisfied with the clashes that took place as they were heard voicing their displeasure during and after the show.
"Hurricane a nursery rhyme dem deh!" one female shouted during the clash before she went back to shouting, "JR Daine!"
A man in the audience was also heard saying, "Wi get a better performance from the girl dem than the man dem. Hey, mi tell dem seh rasta have supm'n under har tam enuh!"
"Mi expect Specialist fi write him off, mi think him (Specialist) woulda come betta," said another member of the audience.
