Top flight deejay Assassin has dropped a second single, Run Di Place, on his own Boardhouse Records label that appears to be making a jest of Vybz Kartels dominance of the local dancehall market.
Playing the devils advocate, Assassin asks the question why he, a talented deejay who has worked hard to finetune his skills, has not been given a chance to, in the local parlance, run the place. And eureka, he reaches a conclusion and shares his findings with the public.
He deejays: Oh, ah mussi true mi nah bleach mi face Or true certain tings yu caan gi me fi taste Mi nah buy the charts dem, nah cheat the race Mi nah pick up no freaky ways Fi wah? Run the place
At no point does Assassin mention Vybz Kartel by name but certain references are unmistakable and he appears to make fun of the self-styled Teacha and his guerilla-style of Internet marketing, disseminating pornographic images and then skin-bleaching to shock and awe the public and dominate media headlines.
Say dem a awah? Mi laugh to miself (haha) Certain things mi nah do fi market miself Mi nah put out no freaky photographs wid miself The music haffi share, mi tek a part fi miself
