If Lady GaGa is to be believed, Born This Way will be the greatest album of all time. The hype surrounding its release is bordering on absurd, but with good reason - in two short years GaGa has become the heir to the pop throne, and released a bevy of generation-defining hit singles ("Poker Face," "Bad Romance," "Telephone," etc.), and become a pop cultural icon of the highest order. 2009's The Fame Monster is a near-perfect pop album, so we're incredibly excited to hear how she follows that up.
This started off as an EP that was originally going to be released this year (and include songs like "So Appalled" and "Monster," both of which ended up making Kanye'sMy Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy instead), but according to 'Ye they came up with such great material that they've decided to make it a full album. With production from Ye, Madlib, Pete Rock & more this is sure to be one of 2011's best hip-hop releases.
If everything goes right,Tha Carter IV will be Wayne's biggest album yet. If nothing else, it should be his most personal, and it's going to be full of material recorded during his prison bid this year. We're eager to hear what he has to say.
It is said that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and that has certainly been the case when it comes to Beyonce. It's been two years since she's released her double-disc epicI Am.. Sasha Fierce, which spawned the mega-classic "Single Ladies," and the wait between albums has made us realize just how much we love her. Bey has promised that this new album will see her exploring a new sound and "creating [her] own genre of music," so we are incredibly excited to hear what she comes with.
Artist: J. Cole
Album:TBD
J. Cole's debut album was supposed to be released this year, but instead it's been pushed to the spring of 2011. Hopefully he can find the right single to launch it, as that's clearly all he needs. As his mixtapeFriday Night Lights proved, he's an incredibly gifted emcee.
Artist: Drake
Album:Take Care
Drake has an amazing 2010, and from the looks of things he isn't slowing down one bit. Putting off plans to release an R&B mixtape, Drake has announced that his new albumTake Care will see him furthering his rap craft. We're excited!
Artist: Young Jeezy
Album:TM103
Though the year has come and gone and this album still has no foreseeable release date, we're still behind Da Snowman, and look forward to hearing whatever he comes out with. On the low,Trap or Die 2 andThe Last Laugh were two of the year's strongest mixtapes. Hopefully in 2011 Jeezy stays away from frivolous beefs withRick Rossand drops TM103 once and for all.
Artist: Dr. Dre
Album:Detox
Honestly, at this point we don't even care what it sounds like, we just want Dre to releaseDetox so we can stop putting it on these lists.
