J-FLAG (Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals and Gays) activist was found stabbed to death in Kingston, Jamaica. It is believed that the 26 year old was the victim of a hate crime. In Jamaica, there persists a society that tolerates violent and socially acceptable homophobia. The cries are loud and clear: Gays (or men) and lesbians are not welcome in Jamaican culture. In addition, Section 79 of the Offences Against the Person Act, which discriminates against gays by criminalising any form of intimacy between two men, whether done in private or public.
The advocacy group has demanded a full investigation of the death of the man, and his name has been withheld until his relatives can be notified.
