Long-distance relationships work

Dear Pastor,

Some people say long-distance relationships don't work, but mine has. I left my man and went abroad. We were separated for many years and I did not cheat on him. I do not believe he cheated on me either. While I was away, I didn't date any other man. I don't know if he dated any woman. But I know I was faithful to him, and we spoke often on the phone.

When I returned to Jamaica, we got married and I am enjoying my married life. I am never worried about leaving my husband to go abroad. I am faithful to him and he is faithful to me. So if couples love each other, and they have to separate from each other for a while, they don't have to cheat.

Temptations are around, whether in Jamaica or abroad. One does not have to yield to the temptations.

Faithful Wife., Jamaica

Dear Faithful Wife.,

Some long-distance relationships have worked and some have failed. It is not advisable for a man and his woman to be separated for a long period of time. The Bible warns couples not to separate themselves for a long period. The Bible says when a couple separates themselves for a long period, Satan may tempt them to do wrong. That is to become unfaithful to each other. Perhaps you should read the warning given in First Corinthians 7: 1-7.

While I would not condemn couples who separate themselves from each other for a long period, I cannot encourage it. I have seen too many relationships destroyed as a result of that.

Pastor
