28 tricked, left at airport? - Group thought they were getting jobs in Barbados

A group of about 28 persons who had intentions of travelling to Barbados found themselves at the Norman Manley International Airport Police Station instead of being on an aircraft after they claimed that a promise by a woman that they would get overseas employment did not materialise.

THE STAR understands that the disgruntled men and women were left somewhat stranded at the airport last Wednesday after they came to the realisation that no flight arrangements were made for them.

thousands of dollars

Allegations are that the complainants paid over thousands of dollars after they were told that they would get overseas employment.

According to a police source, who spoke to THE STAR yesterday, the group of mainly tilers are from the parishes of Hanover, Westmoreland and St James.

The accused woman, who is now in police custody, was arrested at a popular New Kingston travel agency later the same day after she fainted while trying to answer a volume of questions that were being posed by some of her clients. She was then rushed to the University Hospital of the West Indies where she was treated and released.

The Kingston Eastern police are investigating.

According to the police, the woman's identify is being withheld pending further investigations and she has not been charged.
