Nicki Minaj is the latest celebrity to don the cover of gay and lesbian publication Out Magazine, and in their cover story talks her gay-friendly lyrics.
The Barbie who once stated I only stop for pedestrians or a real, real bad lesbian, says she created her lyrics to empower women but at one time wondered if she took things too far.
I started making it my business to say things that would empower women, like, Where my bad b!$%hes at? to let them know, Im here for you, she says. Then, when I started going to the shows and it was nothing but girls, it was like,Did I go too far with embracing my girls? Because now they want to kiss and hug me.
She tells Out,
So you can call yourself a female dog because thats cool in our community. But if you call yourself a Barbie, thats fakeOnce I figure something is irritating people, Im going to do it more, she says, smiling, because I like to get on your nerves until you realize how f*cking stupid you are.
Nicki also stressed that she doesnt want to be owned by labels with her sexuality. According to Minaj she does what the f*ck she wants to do and her fans who listen to her music know exactly who she is.
People who like me theyll listen to my music, and theyll know who I am. I just dont like that people want you to say what you are, who you are. I justam.I do what the F*** I want to doThe point is, everyone is not black and white. There are so many shades in the middle, and youve got to let people feel comfortable with saying what they want to say when they want to say it. I dont want to feel like Ive got the gun pointed at my head and youre about to pull the trigger if I dont say what you want to hear. I just want to be me and do me.
