The Heineken Green Synergy reality TV show heated up last Friday on TVJ with the well anticipated entrance of its celebrity judge who happened to be one of the top DJs in the world, the turntable legend, Grand Master Flash.
Recognised as one of the founding fathers of hip hop, Grand Master Flash is one of the pioneering technical innovators of the turntables. He created turntable skills such as scratching, cutting, mixing and phasing which has a strong influence on rap and hip hop music.
His group, Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, were one of the top rap groups in the 1970s and '80s, making several hit songs including the world re-known Message, which still remains one of the anthems of rap music.

The judges panel is completed by the 'no-nonsense' Collin Hines of Fame FM, entertainment personality Quiz and the turntable twins Alric and Boyd.
Flash, along with his protégé DJ Demo, took the Heineken Green Synergy Six Pack - DJ Naz, DJ Narity, DJ Don Hype, DJ Jerry, DJ 47 and DJ Banka - to 'DJ school'. The young DJs were coached on the art of DJing and witnessed some dazzling turntable skills by the master himself, Grand Master Flash.
The DJs went through a very testing challenge in the last episode. They had to randomly pick 10 songs from the Heineken World Chart list of songs. They got 30 minutes to prepare a six-minute set with the songs they had selected. The songs, being of varying genres, made it even more difficult to coordinate in their set.
In the end, it was DJ Banka who came out on top and even impressed Grand Master Flash who thought Banka's set was very entertaining and well- executed. Banka, in his usual comedic persona, danced and worked up a storm on the turntables as he went through his set.
Host Tami, as usual the bearer of both bad and good news, ushered DJ Don Hype out of the competition as he ended up with the lowest score. He was guilty of taking too long to execute his set.
You do not want to miss the next exciting episode of the Heineken Green Synergy reality TV show which takes centre stage on TVJ this Friday at its usual time, 9:30 p.m.
It will be interesting to see just what the next challenge will be, and how the DJs cope with it. Who will rise to the occasion and who will falter in their quest to be 'el numero uno'?
